Standard weight (std.), extra strong (x-strong) and double-extra strong (xx-strong) pipe dimensions and section properties including moment of inertia, elastic section modulus, radius of gyration, torsional moment of inertia and plastic section modulus.
Steel pipes are manufactured to meet ASTM A53 grade B (Fy = 35 ksi) and proper designations are Std., x-strong or xx-strong. Pipes up to and including NPS 12 are designated by the term "Pipe", nominal diameter (in.) and weight class (std., x-strong and xx-strong). Pipe 4 Std. is a pipe with a 4-in nominal diameter and a 0.237-in wall thickness. Pipes which do not correspond to the forgoing weight classes are designated by the term "Pipe ", outside diameter (in.), and wall thickness (in.) (Ex: Pipe 16.000x0.375).
Note *:The design wall thickness t, shall be used in calculations involving the wall thickness of pipes per Steel Construction Manual Section B3.12.
