PARALLEL & TAPER KEY DIMENSIONS AND TOLERANCES PER ANSI B17.1-1967 (R1998)

Parallel - taper keys and keyseats sizes, types and tolerances according to ANSI B17.1-1967 standard. The sizes and tolerances contained in ANSI B17.1 standard are intended for single key applications only.

ANSI standard recognizes that there are two classes of stock for parallel keys. One is a broad negative toleranced bar stock and the other is a close plus toleranced keystock.

Definitions:

Bar Stock: General purpose, negative toleranced, cold finished steel stock for parallel keys.

Keystock: A close plus toleranced, cold finished steel stock for parallel keys.

Sunk Key: A standard form of key with rectangular or square cross-section in which the key fits into the keyseats on the shaft and the hub.
