Tooth Lock Washer Dimensions are shown in the following chart according to ASME B18.21.1-2009 standard. Tooth lock washers from #2 to 1 3/4 inches nominal size are covered in the chart. There are two different construction of tooth lock washers exist; Type A and Type B.
Tooth lock washer is a type of washer which serves to increase the friction between the screw and the assembly. There are different types of tooth lock washers such as internal tooth-lock washers, heavy internal tooth-lock washers, external tooth-lock washers, external tooth countersunk washers and internal/external tooth lock washers. Internal tooth lock washers are generally preferred if smooth washer periphery is needed.
Some important notes from the ASME B18.21.1:
- The number of teeth, the length of the teeth, the width of the rim, and the thickness of the washer over the teeth (free height) shall be optional with the manufacturer. The projection of the teeth on both sides of the washer shall be relatively uniform.
- Helical spring lock washers shall be produced from material complaint to chemical composition requirements of the standards given in ASME B18.21.1. (Carbon Steel: SAE J403 1050–1065, Stainless Steel: SAE J405 301–305 or SAE J405 410). Visit ASME B18.21.1 for more information.
